Butter: A Rich History
by Elaine Khosrova

Pastry chef and food writer Khosrova takes us over three contients to uncover the cultural history of this staple, from how it’s made to how it’s used best, and all the worshipful, rich and tasty points in between. Story-driven prose and essential recipes included. A fascinating read for the kitchen detail buff.

Regarding Cocktails
by Sasha Petraske

This elegantly illustrated guide to classic, speakeasy-style cocktails offers a fresh and personal take on the trade from legendary bartender Petraske. With recipes, advice on technique (like how to shake), large batch mixing, the responsibilities of hosting, as well as a whole section on ice, this is a must-have volume for the cocktail enthusiast.

Pancakes! An Interactive Recipe Book
by Lotta Nieminen

We love this board book. We love this board book, because it teaches kids about recipes, and cooking, and celebrates the Saturday morning pleasure of homemade pancakes, but it does it all with gears and pull-tabs and flaps that lift. No actual kitchens are dirtied in the process of reading this book, not unless you want to do the dirtying. In which case, this is a perfect toddler introduction to the satisfaction of making one’s own breakfast.

The Book of Veganish: The Ultimate Guide to Easing Into a Plant-Based, Cruelty-Free, Awesomely Delicious Way to Eat
by Kathy Freston

One of the problems with diets is that they are diets. We try out eating paleo, gluten-free, soy-based or pescatarian, but often get frustrated by an all-or-nothing sense of commitment. This book is a guide to taking healthier eating, for your body and for the planet, with a grain of salt, and the occasional cheeseburger. Geared toward a teen to college audience, making their own food choices for the first time, we like the message of moderation here.
